Content

This cours can be recognized as part of the module "Wahlpflichtfach Biologie oder Medizin "(MZDINFM3510) in the B.Sc. Medical Informatics only.

Content of the course:
Stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease - although these are all diseases of the central nervous system, their symptoms are very different: Their symptoms depend on the localisation of the lesion in the brain or spinal cord. Furthermore, these diseases differ from each other in terms of their causes (aetiology), e.g. viral infection, circulatory disorder or autoimmune disease, and the transformation into a functional disorder (pathomechanism), such as nerve cell destruction, tissue destruction (infarction) or demyelination. Where are the starting points for therapy? Starting with brain anatomy, we will systematically discuss the most important neurological diseases in this course.

Objectives

The students will learn how to classify diseases of the central nervous system. This enables them to link a particular disease to its localization in the brain, its aeteology, the underlying pathological mechanisms, its symptoms and how to treat it.
